Pattern in photos is worked with Caron Cotton Cakes yarn, which is a blend of acrylic and cotton. I like this yarn for is durability and pretty colors. I bought many last year from my local Michael’s Store, but they have not had them yet this year. Hopefully they will be out this summer. You can use any Medium #4 weight yarn that you wish.

Materials Needed

  • H 5mm Crochet Hook
  • 1 Skein of Caron Cotton Cakes or any medium #4 yarn
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle
  • 2 Elastic Hair Bands

  • Not necessary

Stitches Used/Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • DC – Double Crochet
  • SC – Single Crochet
  • Sl St – Slip Stitch
  • Join – Slip Stitch to top of 1st stitch

Pattern Notes

  • Pattern is worked from the bottom up
  • Beginning chain of each round DOES NOT count as a stitch

Rnd 1: slip stitch on to elastic hair band. ch 2, work 30 DC around. Join (30)

Rnd 2: ch 2, *DC in 1 stitch, 2DC in next* repeat around. Join. (45)

Rnd 3: ch 2, *DC in 2 stitches, 2DC in next* repeat around. Join (60)

Rnd 4: ch 2, DC in BLO around. Join (60)

Rnd 5 – 6: ch 2, DC around. Join (60)

Rnd 7: ch 2, *DC in 2 stitches, ch 2, skip 2 stitches* repeat around. Join and TURN

Rnd 8 – 20: ch 2, *2DC in ch-2 space. Ch 2, skip 2 stitches* repeat around. Join and TURN

Rnd 21: ch 2, *2DC in ch-2 space. DC in each of next 2 stitches* repeat around. Join (60)

Rnd 22 – 23: ch 2, DC in each stitch around. Chain 30 to hang and join to top of first DC. Turn and slip stitch in each stitch back across the chain 30. Slip stitch to the same join. Finish off leaving a long tail for sewing too on.

Top

Rnd 1: ch 2, work 30 DC around elastic hair band. Join (30)

Rnd 2: ch 2, *DC in 1 stitch, 2DC in next* repeat around. Join. (45)

Rnd 3: ch 2, *DC in 2 stitches, 2DC in next* repeat around. Join (60) finish off. Weave in end.

Turn body of bag inside out. Turn top upside down. Sew top on to round 23 by using the whip stitch and tail of yarn. Go through front loop only of round 23 and both loops of top, making sure to leave the chain hook on inside. Sew all the way around. Weave in ends when finished. Turn back right side out.
