I am so excited to share this little crochet pattern set with you for FREE!  The ribbed toque and slippers have so many colour combination possibilities with the adorable pom poms and colour blocking.  They would make a great baby shower gift or present for your own little one.  The crochet pattern includes 4 sizes ranging from baby (6 months) to toddler (2 years).  The design is beginner friendly and works up quickly!  In addition to the free version of this pattern below you can also download a concise PDF version from Etsy HERE or Ravelry HERE

This pattern is special to me because it’s the first design I was ever commissioned to create AND it’s the first design I’ve ever had professionally published.  Mollie Makes reached out last Spring and asked for a modern + fun baby hat & bootie set.  I was familiar with the London based crafty lifestyle magazine because I follow the incredibly talented Lindsey Newns (from @lottieandalbert) on Instagram and she works for the wonderful Maker mag.  I was honoured by their request and quickly got to work creating this modern + fun set.  It was published in Issue 97 of Mollie Makes last Fall and I’ve been waiting for my new webiste to lanch to share the pattern with you.  That day is finally here!!!  : )

This pattern also makes my heart smile because I was able to borrow the cutest little model for the pictures.  Sadly, my babies are growing up so a very kind friend allowed me to capture her little love in the design.  We had a lot of fun chasing her around my kids’ playroom trying to snap a pic last Summer.

Isn’t she adorable!

So, should we dive in? I think yes!  Read on for the pattern . . .

  • Hat is worked in rows, seamed together, and then one end is closed to form hat
  • When changing colours use colour needed for next stitch in last step of current stitch (ex: yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through, using contrasting colour: yarn over and pull through all loops on hook)
  • Bootie is made in 2 pieces (sole + cuff & body) and sl st together
  • Numbers separated by “/” indicate changes for various sizes (smallest to largest – XS/S/M/L)
  • Beg ch does not count as a st in st count [ ]
  • When counting the number of rows completed while making the hat and bootie cuff each “rib” equals 2 rows
  • Attach the pom pom to the foot of the bootie before slip stitching the sole on for easier assembly
